Dentistry

Keeping your pet’s teeth clean is important to their life-long health and happiness. Just as with humans, regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet’s dental health. Dental issues can cause other overall health issues (including liver, kidney, and heart disease).

Although cavities are less common in pets than in people, they can have many of the same dental problems that people can develop:

  • Broken teeth and roots
  • Periodontal disease
  • Abscesses or infected teeth
  • Cysts or tumors in the mouth
  • Malocclusion, or misalignment of the teeth and bite
  • Broken (fractured) jaw
  • Palate defects (such as cleft palate)

Periodontal disease is the most common health issue in dogs and cats. Prevention of dental problems can prevent overall health conditions. At Carlton Animal Clinic, we provide thorough dental exams, prophy cleaning under anesthesia (removal of plaque and tartar, especially under the gums), and extractions as needed.
